Box Cooler
A Box Cooler functions as a water cooling system for vessels, incorporating a U-tube bundle installed within the sea chest on the vessel's side, which efficiently utilizes space in the engine room. The sea chest features inlet and outlet grids, facilitating the passage of cooling seawater. The seawater enters through the inlet grid, travels along the U-tube bundle, and exits through the outlet grid, effectively cooling the water within the tubes. This cooling process is achieved either through forced seawater circulation when the vessel is in motion or via natural convection during stationary periods. Box coolers are versatile and can be applied to various temperature-reducing tasks on a vessel, including cooling main engines, auxiliary engines, bow thrusters, as well as air conditioning and hydraulic systems.
